Overview

The context

LivestockMart connects livestock buyers and sellers across Nigeria — built entirely around trust. With verified sellers, escrow protection, pedigree scores and watermarked photos, it makes a traditionally informal, risky trade feel safe, comparable and transparent. It was my most complex two-sided design.

The problem

What needed solving
  • Trust is the core barrier. Buyers won't commit to unfamiliar sellers without strong proof of legitimacy.
  • Listings aren't comparable. Inconsistent details make it impossible to evaluate animals side by side.
  • Two sides, opposite goals. Buyers want to filter and compare; sellers want to list easily and look credible.

The solution

My approach
  • Trust, made visible. Verified badges, pedigree scores and escrow are surfaced at every decision point.
  • Consistent listing cards. A fixed structure makes every animal instantly comparable.
  • Safety by design. Escrow holds funds until delivery; chat is recorded; photos are watermarked.

Research & users

Who I designed for

I designed around the buyer's core job — compare, judge a seller, and reach them safely — and the seller's need to list quickly and credibly. Trust signals were mapped to each step of the journey.

Design decisions

Why it works

Trust at the centre

Verification, pedigree score and escrow lead the listing, not the price alone.

Filter-first browsing

Buyers narrow quickly so the marketplace scales gracefully.

Escrow as the default

The safest path is the most prominent call to action.

Accessibility

Considered throughout
  • Clear focus states and labels on search and filters.
  • Sufficient contrast on badges and prices; status never by colour alone.
  • Responsive layouts across desktop, tablet and mobile.

Outcomes

What I delivered
  • A coherent two-sided marketplace with trust built into the core flow.
  • A listing structure that makes comparison effortless.

Challenges & lessons

Reflection

Serving buyers and sellers at once meant every decision had to balance two opposing sets of needs.

“LivestockMart taught me that in a marketplace, trust is the product — and trust is designed.”
